Corlar® 2.1 HTA High Temperature Aluminum Epoxy Mastic

This new product was created to keep abreast of changing VOC regulations and with the introduction of Corlar® 2.1 HTA, we are now compliant across the country, in most states, districts, and counties, with a high temperature offering.

Concurrent with the introduction of NEW Corlar 2.1 HTA, we will discontinue Corlar 2.4 HTA (previously 6AL25P). This discontinuation will be effective Monday, August 8, 2005. Projects started with Corlar 2.4 HTA can be finished with the NEW Corlar 2.1 HTA as Corlar® 2.1 HTA will do all the same things that Corlar® 2.4 HTA did. Performance, application and mix ratio are all the same.

As you would expect, there is some additional information you need to know to use the NEW Corlar® 2.1 HTA. Corlar® 2.1 HTA introduces two new component pieces:

  • 1HTA25P Aluminum Base, and
  • FG-2HTA Corlar® 2.1 HTA Activator

The old materials for Corlar® 2.4 HTA, 6AL25P and VF-525 CANNOT BE USED with any parts of the new Corlar® 2.1 HTA.

Product Performance and Positioning

Corlar® 2.1 HTA may be used for high temperature applications up to 450°F continuous, 500°F intermittent. It can continue to be applied over either blasted or hand cleaned surfaces providing additional flexibility to the end user. We believe that Corlar® 2.1 HTA High Temperature Aluminum Epoxy Mastic, with its innovative formulation and new lower VOC content, as a surface tolerant high temperature epoxy, recommended to this temperature range, makes it rare in the industry.
In addition to this new use, Corlar® 2.1 HTA still can be used for all the things that Corlar® 2.4 HTA has been used for. It will provide:

  • Excellent corrosion protection
  • Can be applied in cold weather, down to 35°F
  • Excellent build
  • Looks good over time... Aluminum "brightens" with time.
  • No induction time
  • Can be applied over damp surfaces
  • Can be applied over marginally prepared surfaces

Corlar® 2.1 HTA can be used as a:

  • Single coat in non corrosive environments
  • Primer in systems
  • Intermediate coat in systems, and
  • Can be applied over properly prepared steel, galvanized steel, masonry, concrete and wood

Suggested uses for Corlar® 2.1 HTA:

  • High Heat Applications such as Heating and Air Conditioning units, Heat Exchangers (exteriors up to 450°F), Hot Piping up to 450°F, and Boilers.
  • Ready Mixed Concrete Applications including Silos, Hoppers, Structural Pieces, Doors and Barrels
  • Construction Equipment
  • Auto Dealerships - Structural Pieces
  • Commercial Buildings - Structural Pieces
  • Cranes

Important points to remember:

  • With the introduction of Corlar® 2.1 HTA, Corlar 2.4 HTA (formerly 6AL25P) will be discontinued.
  • VF-525 will NOT be discontinued but CANNOT be used as the activator for Corlar® 2.1 HTA. It will still be available for all other Corlar® 2.1 PR and Corlar® 2.1 ST (25P) applications.
  • DO NOT MIX VF-525 with the new 1HTA25P or mix 6AL25P with the FG-2HTA.
